Alexander Mandl

Vall d'Hebron patient, survivor of the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.

Alexander David Mandl is the founder of Hemsel, an outreach and venture development platform focused on innovation in healthcare. A Wharton and Lauder graduate, he began his corporate career in investment banking at Goldman Sachs before moving into digital commerce, innovation, and strategy—holding senior roles at Amazon, Newell Brands, Beam Suntory, and Gopuff. After surviving the September 11 attacks and experiencing a long-term health decline due to toxic dust exposure, Alexander received a double lung transplant at the Vall d’Hebron hospital in Barcelona. This transformative journey inspired a full career pivot toward healthcare, with a vocational call to advance transplant innovation and post-transplant care. Alexander now builds bridges between science-driven startups and commercial expertise, helping early-stage companies scale through Hemsel. A dual Austrian-Belgian citizen, Alexander is fluent in six languages and passionate about international collaboration, organ donation advocacy, and safety guidelines communication in health emergencies.
